Landmarks worth knowing
The Albert Cuypmarkt runs every day except Sunday and is the backbone of the district. Sarphatipark offers a green square of calm right in the middle of it all, and on summer evenings the terraces around it stay full until late, as if the whole neighbourhood were one open-air living room. The old brewery on Stadhouderskade, now the Heineken Experience, marks the northern edge, with the Rijksmuseum just across the water. A metro station named after the district sits beneath the Ferdinand Bolstraat, six minutes from Centraal. On the surface, trams work the Ceintuurbaan and the Van Woustraat, with another line up the Ferdinand Bolstraat, and the Amstel river forms a clear eastern border you can walk along at any hour.

The south end, near the Europaplein and the RAI, is still close but sits on the edge of the grid. Allow forty-five minutes on a quiet evening and a little longer when a big event at the RAI lets out.
