Escort Zuidas: the city's skyline of glass and ambition
Amsterdam keeps its old centre low, so the city built its towers somewhere else. Zuidas, the South Axis, is that somewhere: a long strip of glass offices, law firms, banks and university buildings wrapped around Amsterdam Zuid station and the A10. By day it runs on meetings. By night it empties fast, which is exactly why so many visitors staying here want good company close at hand.
Zuidas has no resident companions of its own, but it borders Oud-Zuid, where several of ours live, and the whole roster is available here.

02 Zuidas
Towers, parks and the RAI
The spine of Zuidas is the Gustav Mahlerlaan and the streets around Amsterdam Zuid station, with the World Trade Center complex beside the tracks and new towers still rising around it. To the north, Beethovenstraat is lined with smart shops and cafés on the Oud-Zuid side. To the east, the RAI convention centre fills up with trade fairs and conferences for much of the calendar, and Beatrixpark offers a quiet green corner nearby. The campus of the Vrije Universiteit lies to the west, and the Amsterdamse Bos, the city's great forest park, begins a short ride to the south-west.
03 Zuidas
Where business travellers stay
Zuidas hotels are built for people on expense accounts and tight schedules. Large business hotels stand near the station and along the ring road, often with executive floors and bars that stay open late, and the streets around the RAI add more rooms for conference guests. Serviced apartments are common too, filled with professionals on longer assignments. Lobbies are busy at breakfast and quiet by ten at night, and security staff at the door are normal, so share your hotel name and any visitor procedure when you book.

Arrival in Zuidas
This is one of the most straightforward trips on our map. Our Oud-Zuid companions are practically neighbours, those based in De Pijp are barely further away, the metro from De Pijp reaches Amsterdam Zuid in a couple of stops, and a taxi uses the ring road or Beethovenstraat. An hour's notice is usually plenty. The one thing that slows arrivals is a big RAI event, when roads around Europaplein and the station jam at closing time. If your stay coincides with a large conference, message earlier and we will build that into the timing.
05 Zuidas
After the last meeting
A Zuidas evening often opens with a cocktail downstairs or a table at a restaurant near the station, then perhaps a short taxi into Oud-Zuid for the Concertgebouw or a late dinner near the Museumplein. Karolina, an opera lover who takes architecture walks for fun, brings poise, discretion and wit, and reads a tower lobby as easily as a concert programme. Close by
