Rosa bakes when she is happy, which means Rosa bakes a lot. Sourdough on Sundays, cardamom buns when friends drop round, a lemon tart she will only describe as dangerous. Baking is her therapy and her love language, and it tells you most of what you need to know about her: earthy, generous and completely at ease.
She lives in De Pijp, and the Albert Cuyp market is practically her pantry. She knows which stall has the best butter and which one sells the ripest figs in late summer. Ask her where to find the best pastry in the neighbourhood and prepare for a list. She is 25, 160 cm and curvy, with long curly chestnut brown hair and warm brown eyes. Her look is relaxed boho elegance, a style that works at a gallery opening and a neighbourhood café without changing a single thing.
Records are her other collection. She digs through crates at the Waterlooplein flea market and the small vinyl shops scattered around town, searching for soul, jazz and the odd seventies curiosity nobody else wants. Her shelves are a map of the city's second-hand shops, every sleeve with a story about where she found it. She would always rather put on a record than a playlist. Tina shares that crate-digging habit, if you are after a second music lover.
Galleries round out her week. Rosa prefers the small independent spaces to the blockbuster museums, the kind of rooms where the artist might still be standing by the door. She also loves the street art that keeps appearing on the walls of her own neighbourhood. An afternoon with her could mean two galleries, a coffee and something homemade on the way. This is Amsterdam the way locals live it, not the way postcards sell it.
Rosa speaks English, keeps things easygoing and suits guests who value warmth over polish. Her laugh fills a café. Bring your appetite; she will already have a recommendation ready.
03 An evening plan
Out with Rosa
Three stops make Rosa's perfect night, and every one of them has something to take home. First, a record shop, where she flips through the crates with practised speed and slips a pair of headphones over your ears for the one track she thinks you need to hear. Second, a small gallery opening, wine in plastic cups and artists pretending not to watch the visitors' faces; she is earthy and warm, and always finds something kind and honest to say.
The third stop is dinner in De Pijp, somewhere relaxed with mismatched chairs, and it only counts if dessert is good, because Rosa bakes and holds every pastry to account. Her style is easy boho elegance, a long skirt and a jacket with character. She walks you back through the Sarphatipark, humming the record she bought and already planning next week's cake.
04 In her words
Rosa answers
01Vinyl or streaming?
Streaming to discover, vinyl to keep. If I love a song enough, I need to hold it, read the sleeve and hear the crackle.
02What is your signature bake?
Apple cake with far too much cinnamon. People complain right up until their second slice, and I still refuse to use less.
03What do you look for at a gallery opening?
The piece nobody is standing near. It is usually the most interesting one in the room, and the artist is glad someone finally asked.
